Established in 2018, Yuza Distillery is located in Yamagata, overlooking the Sea of Japan. This small and charming distillery benefits from the high-quality water from the mountain stream of Mt. Founded in 1950, Kinryu Corporation, the owner of Yuza Distillery, was initially a joint venture funded by nine local sake producers. The company started by making neutral spirits and later moved on to producing and selling shochu. However, with the decline in shochu (and sake) consumption over the years, the company decided to venture into whisky production and established a brand new distillery in the city of Yuza. The first distillation took place in November 2018.
The whisky produced by Yuza Distillery adheres to "Japanese whisky" and meets "The Standards for Labeling Japanese Whisky" set by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association. This ensures that the entire process of making the whisky, from malting, fermenting, and distilling, takes place in Japan.
This Yuza First Edition 2022 is the distillery's first official bottling and a collector's item.
