The Wolfburn The Kylver Series 4 is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Wolfburn Distillery, located in Thurso, making it the northernmost distillery on the UK mainland. This is the fourth release in the Kylver Series, which is named after a burial stone featuring one of the earliest examples of the Viking runic alphabet. Each bottle in the series features a letter from the runic alphabet, and this particular release has the symbol "Ansuz", which translates to "god" or "gods".
This peated whisky was matured for around four years in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill quarter casks. It is the first Kylver release to be made from peated spirit and thus the first to come in a dark green bottle, which indicates a peated expression inside.
The Wolfburn Distillery is based around a long-lost distillery that ended around 1850, and this new Wolfburn reopened in 2013. The Kylver series follows the Viking runic alphabet engraved on a large stone excavated in Gotland (Sweden) in 1903. This release, Ansuz, is limited to 950 bottles.
