This intensely malty and fruity Single Malt Whiskey hails from the northeast of the Republic of Ireland. The name Tyrconnell, which means 'Land of the O'Donnells' in Gaelic, pays homage to a successful racehorse depicted on the bottle's label. The story begins in 1876 when R. M. Delamere's chestnut stallion, Tyrconnell, unexpectedly won a race, inspiring local whiskey distiller A.A. Watt to create a limited edition whiskey in its honor. Though the Irish whiskey drifted into obscurity, it was revived in 1987 by the Kilbeggan Distilling Company. Produced at the Cooley Distillery, this single malt is unique among Irish whiskies as it is double-distilled instead of the traditional triple distillation. The 10-year-old variant with a Port cask finish gains additional complexity from the Portuguese sweet wine previously housed in those barrels.
