The Thomond Gate Ukraine Charity Imperial Stout Finish is an exceptional cask strength whiskey, meticulously crafted and limited to just 160 bottles. This distinguished whiskey is the product of a collaboration between The Great Northern Distillery and the Western Herd Brewery Co Clare. It has been matured in a seasoned, toasted French Oak hogshead barrel, previously used to finish a VS cognac cask that had aged a triple distilled Single Malt. On February 15, 2021, the barrel was transported to Co. Clare, filled with Imperial stout, and subsequently emptied on June 5, 2021. The cask was then transported to the Great Northern Distillery and refilled with Single Pot Still on May 8, 2021, before being bottled at a robust cask strength of 53.28% on December 18, 2021.
This whiskey is part of the esteemed Departed Spirits of Limerick series, which honors Peter Lacy, a renowned military general who left Ireland and joined Tsar Peter of Russia in his later campaigns. The whiskey's finishing in an imperial stout cask from Treaty City Brewery adds a historical layer, as this style of beer was widely exported to Russia during the 18th century. Each bottle is accompanied by a certificate and pendant and originates from one of two casks (PL-001 or PL-002) with a unique bottle number. Significantly, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this whiskey will be donated to charity in Ukraine.
