With water, it becomes even more mineral, with notes of Schweppes, clay, mud, damp hessian, limestone, and a hint of lemon. The palate is extraordinary, with a balance of fat and nervousness, immaculate and pristine, zesty, and extremely mineral. Lemon oil and petroly notes are present, reminiscent of a very good Riesling. This whisky is highly regarded and is considered to be a great example of the distillery's style. It is a must-try for any whisky connoisseur. Gorgeous old Lowland malt. The nose is fruity, warm, and full, with plenty of evidence of a well-aged whisky, all perfectly balanced. Fresh and fruity on the palate, with some lovely citrus in the background. Medium-long finish with some subtle spices lingering at the end. Seriously impressive stuff, and a great example of an old St. Magdalene. Why oh why did they shut this distillery?!
