This release marks the fifth edition in the renowned Cask Exploration Series and stands out as the first in the series to use 100% Islay-grown barley, sourced from seven local farms. The barley was malted to 40 ppm and meticulously distilled on Islay, resulting in a spirit aged for 9 years in a harmonious blend of sherry butts, first and second fill American whiskey barrels, and Sauternes wine casks from Bordeaux's left bank of the Garonne River.
The whisky boasts a high peat level of 40 ppm, contributing to its elegance and finesse, further enhanced by the tall, narrow-necked stills at Bruichladdich. On the nose, it reveals an enticing bouquet of stone fruits and a delicate floral perfume, intertwined with notes of peaches in syrup and smoky fudge. The palate is a complex tapestry of earthy tones, featuring leather and boot polish, enveloped by a smoky warmth and ripe fruits, culminating in a citrus tang and more peat.
This exceptional whisky is non-chill filtered and retains its natural color. Bottled at a robust 55.2% ABV, the 2011 harvest used barley grown within a mere 10 miles of the distillery, resulting in a richly smoky single malt with fruity notes of pineapple and nectarine, underpinned by fine peat, polished leather, and toasty French oak.
