The Octomore Edition 06.1 is the 6th edition of the cult and experimental whisky, known for being the world's most heavily peated whisky. This young warrior of a whisky is matured for 5 years in American Oak Casks and is made with 100% Octomore Scottish barley. Despite its young age, it boasts a light, delicate complexity and a beguiling finesse, making it an enigma that challenges convention.
This whisky is magnificently muscular with a high peat level, yet it is not dry or phenolic. Instead, it arouses pride and passion, transporting you to the heart of Islay, the famous rock in the Atlantic ocean and the beating heart of the Hebrides.
The finish of this whisky is a celebration for the senses, leaving a warm, thrilling experience long after the glass is empty. The journey it takes you on will leave a warmth in your heart and spirit in your soul. This whisky is a true testament to the raw materials that gave it life and the land from which it came.
Strong sweet peat with some light pear, vanilla, charcoal and ash in both the nose and palate. The finish is medium-long with some smoky lemongrass. It's not complicated, just a great dram with impact.
Krass impressive experiment no matter what you like! Nose of pure concentrated, smoldering smoke, very dense like mist, with hints of citrus, malt, and oak. The taste is dominated by overlying smoke, some malt and cereals, lemon zest, oily, nutmeg, and some thyme later. The finish is herbal and smoky, lingering eternally in the throat.
It's highly recommended not to add water to this whisky, as it hits the spot perfectly straight. A must for peat lovers. The nose smells like Hell, but in a good way, with burnt and charred wood, cooked sea whelks, white pepper, uncooked pork sausage, a mossy fresh water stream, and a winter's morning on a beach at low tide. The taste is intense, with thick black liquorice stick, full-bodied, TCP, Fisherman's friend, and Victory V cough sweets, but nothing overpowering. The finish is very long and fiery, burning long into the night.
Peat, little smoke, citrus, smoked meat, ham and cheese, and salty notes. Quite impressive for such a young one! Medium viscosity and relatively strong intensity in the bouquet, with aromas of dry peat smoke, citrus, salt, vanilla, caramel, and ash. It's not very complex and relatively dry in taste, with clearly noticeable alcohol and a relatively heavy body.
Less peat notes than expected, but still a stunner. Surprisingly full-bodied and long, soft finish. Drinkable without dilution. Dense oily briney peat with some biscuity wood. Water brings out some crystallized ginger. Decent. Sort of a typical Octomore—dense, salty with an 'oily' peatiness that doesn't really come across as smoky.
