Arguably the most famous independent bottler of Scotch whisky, Gordon & MacPhail, was founded in Elgin in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail. Now owned by the Urquhart Family, they have bottled over 350 different expressions from around 69 different distilleries. Operating under the trading name Speymalt Whiskies, Gordon & MacPhail also owns the Benromach distillery, purchased in 1993. Some of their notable brands include Connoisseurs Choice, Cask Strength, Rare Old, and Speymalt. This Ledaig 2008 GM Connoisseurs Choice Wood Finished whisky, a product of the Tobermory distillery, was filled in 2008 and initially matured in a refill sherry hogshead before being finished in a Hermitage cask for 3 years. The distillery, founded in 1798, is the only whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull and one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland. Tobermory celebrates creativity and expressive nature, which is evident in the colorful houses of Tobermory, framed by the rich and dramatic landscape of the beautiful island. This passion for art in nature is reflected not just in the waters of the harbor but also in the distinct spirits they produce at the coastal distillery. Everything made here is an expression of the rich flavors provided by their Hebridean homeland.
