The distillery produces both peated and unpeated expressions under three distinct brands: Springbank, Hazelburn, and Longrow. Kilkerran, derived from the Gaelic "Caen Loch Cille Chiarain," is the name given to the single malt whisky made at the Glengyle distillery. This 8-year-old single malt from Glengyle distillery is one of two cask strength Kilkerrans released in early 2023, the other being fully matured in sherry casks. The whisky's nose reveals surprising intensity from the young bourbon barrel, with notes of ripe apples, kiwi, a touch of grassiness, vanilla, cookie dough, herbs, and lime zest. There's a unique funkiness that is challenging to describe, possibly hinting at a light peat influence. On the palate, the whisky starts pleasantly for its high ABV, with citrus, bright fruits, and a pleasant sweetness. The peat becomes more recognizable yet remains subtle. The finish sees the peat smoke introducing a slight dryness that quickly fades, adding further complexity to the concert of aromas and delivering decent intensity and length.
