The Isle of Jura The Loch is a single malt whisky distilled at the Jura distillery, the only distillery on the Hebridean island. This expression has been matured in American white oak bourbon barrels and enhanced in hand-selected sherry casks that previously held 30-year-old Pedro Ximenez sherry from a single estate Jerez bodega. Named for the distillery's water source, Market Loch, which sits 1000 feet above sea level, this whisky is part of the Travel Retail exclusive range.
A small portion of peated malt gives a subtle smoky undertone to the sweet bourbon cask influence and the richness of the PX casks. The nose is rich and sweet with thick treacle, while the palate brings praline, baked apple, and a touch of coffee. The finish is spicy with a fruity note.
The Jura distillery, located on the remote Isle of Jura, has a long history dating back to 1810. The current distillery was established in 1958 by two locals who wanted to revitalize the island and create jobs. Today, the distillery produces over 2 million liters of whisky per year and employs 12 people, which is 17% of the island's population.

The nose is sweet with cacao, chocolate, perfume, dried fruits, spices, plum jam, and caramel notes. The palate is smooth, dry with very light sweetness and notes of dried fruits, spices, and very light smoke. The finish is middle, spicy and sweet with spices, pepper, chocolate, and light smoke notes. As usual, Pedro Ximenez casks add a strong sweetness, but here it’s a very delicate and light. The Loch has a good balance and taste. It’s a good whisky for daily drinking.
