Rumours of the resurrection of the closed Imperial Distillery have flourished over the last decade. A few years ago, the owner even commissioned an estate agent to convert the buildings into flats, but the plans changed when Chivas Bros withdrew it from the market. In 2012, it was announced that a new distillery would be built on the site, with production starting in 2015. The old distillery was demolished in the spring of 2015, and the new Dalmunach Distillery was commissioned. Over its century-long history, the Imperial Distillery was inactive for 60% of the time, yet when operational, it had an impressive capacity of 1.6 million litres per year. Distilled in 1995, this exquisite single malt was aged for 27 years in a single sherry cask and bottled in 2023 at a robust 50.4% ABV by the renowned Silver Seal brand. It hails from Speyside, a region celebrated for its flavorful and complex whiskies.
