This exceptional single malt whisky hails from the renowned Highland Park Distillery, located in the Islands region. Imbued with the mystique of Viking lore, this expression was crafted in collaboration with Danish designer Jim Lyngvild. The Valknut symbol, associated with the Norse god Odin, adorns the bottle, symbolizing the power and reverence of slain warriors. Valknut has been predominantly matured in sherry-seasoned American oak, giving it a distinctive character that sets it apart. Upon opening, expect a journey through a roaring longhouse feast with its woody, smoky, and spicy essence. A modest touch of peat combines harmoniously with notes of ripe apples, red fruits, and prunes, along with hints of rubber and woodsmoke. Allowed some time, the nose reveals more alcohol, increased peat, and a farmy character. The palate is equally intriguing, starting smooth with a little sparkle and a spicy, peppery undertone. There are elements of tobacco and prunes, evolving into a creamy structure with more pronounced smoke. The finish is long, smooth, and warming, featuring smoke, ash, spiciness, and a touch of licorice wood. This whisky unfolds beautifully with time, becoming more powerful and varied.
