Highland Park 50 Year Old is a remarkable Island single malt whisky, meticulously hand-bottled from two Spanish oak, sherry-seasoned hogshead casks filled in 1964 by the distinguished Highland Park distillery. After resting quietly for five decades in the distillery's most northerly warehouse, this whisky was first sampled in 2008 and discovered to be of exceptional quality. The two casks were then married together, along with a small amount of liquid from the 2010 50-year-old release, and left to harmonize for an additional eight years.
This whisky boasts a rich and intense flavor profile, with sweet notes of ripe black cherries, Muscovado sugar, and dried autumn fruits, complemented by warm toasted wood, a hint of cedarwood, and the distillery's signature light and peaty aromatic smoke. Yielding just 274 bottles, each bottle of this limited release is individually numbered and personally signed by Whisky Maker, Max McFarlane.
The whisky is presented in a beautifully hand-crafted oak box by award-winning master craftsman John Galvin, accompanied by an eye-catching crystal decanter encased in polished silver-plated metal, and a leather-bound book that tells the story behind this exceptional whisky. This 50-year-old Highland Park is the oldest bottling in nearly a decade, making it a truly unique and rare collector's item for whisky connoisseurs.
