The Glenury Royal 1970 is a very rare and special whisky from a tragically lost distillery, with only a small number of long-aged distillery bottlings available. The distillery was established in 1825 and was named after the Ury-district valley it was located in. It was closed down in 1985 after a market downturn created an oversupply, and was subsequently demolished. Official bottlings of Glenury Royal are therefore rare.
This particular expression was distilled in 1970 and matured for 36 years, and was released as part of Diageo's Special Releases in 2007. It is the third in a series of special releases from this long-closed distillery, with only 1926 bottles available worldwide.
