Glengoyne The Teapot Dram is a distillery exclusive release, inspired by the tradition of daily tea break whisky rations at the Glengoyne distillery. This cask strength expression, Batch 1, is bottled at a robust 58.8% ABV and is a strictly limited release of ten first fill Oloroso sherry casks. The whisky is matured in these casks for a period of 9 to 11 years, resulting in a rich and full-bodied spirit.
For almost 150 years, workers at Glengoyne were allowed three large drams while on duty throughout the day. The Brewers would select a different cask each week from which to draw the drams, and the workers would gather in the staff canteen at 9.00am, midday, and 3.00pm to receive their share. The agreed measure was for it to be "no less than the quantity indicated by the placement of three fingers upon the tumbler," which was usually calibrated by the man with the chubbiest digits. Served at full cask strength, some of the younger workers found it a bit of a struggle to finish. So instead of disposing of the leftovers, the drams were secreted in a copper teapot. The more seasoned imbibers would enjoy a little extra throughout the day—well, it beats a proper tea break.
The first release of the Teapot Dram was created to remind us of those days, and is made from ten first fill sherry casks, aged between 9 and 11 years old and bottled at full cask strength. Only 3105 bottles were produced. Glengoyne is a Highland whisky, situated right on the border with the Lowlands, and is known for its ultra-clean spirit, much of which is matured in sherry casks. It is considered one of Scotland's finest unsung distilleries, beloved by whisky connoisseurs. The whisky comes in a presentation tube.
