Originating from the Glenglassaugh distillery in the Highlands region—a distillery with a storied and sporadic production history since its establishment in 1875—the distillery had been inactive since 1986 until it was revived in 2008. This particular bottling is noteworthy as it comes from the very first cask filled during the distillery's revival. On December 16, 2008, the first cask, a refill butt, was filled. This whisky underwent a meticulous aging process, beginning with its transfer on December 16, 2010, into two first-fill ex-Palo Cortado sherry hogsheads. These casks infused the whisky with unique characteristics until it was returned to the original butt on September 16, 2011, to marry for three months. Finally, it was bottled at cask strength on December 16, 2011, by the 11 dedicated employees of the Glenglassaugh Distillery Company. Bottled without chill-filtration and with no added color, this whisky maintains its natural integrity. With an ABV of 59.1% and limited to only 650 bottles, each bottle comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Master Distiller Stuart Nickerson, making it a true collector's item. This 3-year-old whisky showcases the exceptional influence of quality sherry casks, setting a promising path for Glenglassaugh's future endeavors.
