The Glenallachie 30yo Batch 1 is a small batch, cask strength whisky from the Speyside-based Glenallachie distillery, added to their core range in 2021. This exceptional whisky is the oldest core release ever unveiled by the distillery and is a marriage of vintage whiskies from 9 different casks, comprising a combination of 1989 and 1990 vintages matured in ex-PX and Oloroso hogsheads, as well as a small amount of Chinquapin virgin oak.
Handpicked by Master Distiller Billy Walker, this whisky was laid down to mature for at least three decades, resulting in layers of complex flavors. On the palate, expect notes of dark chocolate, fruit cake, raisins, honey, figs, treacle, orange zest, and nutmeg. Bottled at a cask strength of 48.9% ABV, only 2,000 bottles were released worldwide, making this a truly limited and exceptional release.

Aroma: Ink, Georgian grape marshmallow, musty, old Soviet cough syrup, leather, gun oil.
Taste: Sweet, luscious, industrial, technical, free candy, lollipops.
Finish: Caramel tones, technical, short-lived, lusciously sweet.
Overall: The Glenallachie 30yo Batch 1 presents an intriguing blend of flavors and aromas, balancing between dark and sweet notes with a hint of industrial essence. While it may not impress everyone, it offers a unique tasting experience.
I had quite high expectations for this whisky. I must say that, contrary to the opinion of most of my acquaintances, it did not make such an impression on me. The nose holds an interesting mix of ink, grape marshmallow, and musty notes, reminiscent of old leather and gun oil. The taste is sweet but feels somewhat industrial and technical, akin to free candies in public places. The finish has a touch of caramel but is overall short-lived and sweet. It might appeal to collectors and those looking for a unique experience, but it didn't quite meet my personal expectations.
