With only 6,000 bottles available, each bottle contains whisky from 23 first-fill ex-bourbon barrels filled between February and April 2008. Daftmill Distillery, a family-owned farm distillery located in Fife, Scotland, was granted a license to produce whisky in 2005. The distillery operates seasonally, focusing on quality production during the farm's quiet periods, using long fermentations, small stills, and slow distillation to produce a light, fruity spirit. The barley used in this release, known as Optic, was grown in the distillery's South fields, harvested in August 2006, and malted in Alloa in the summer of 2007.
