Daftmill 2008 Summer Batch Release is a single malt Scotch whisky from the family-owned and operated Daftmill Distillery, located in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland. The distillery, granted a license in 2005, operates seasonally during the farm's quiet periods and is known for its long fermentation, small stills, and slow distillation process. This particular release, distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2019, is a limited edition with only 1760 bottles available.
The whisky is made from the Optic barley variety, grown in the distillery's South fields and harvested in the last week of August 2006. The malting was done in Alloa during the summer of 2007. The six first-fill ex-bourbon barrels used for this bottling were distilled and filled in the summer of 2008.
Notably, Daftmill grows its own malting barley, adding to the unique provenance of this whisky. The distillery's focus on small-batch, handcrafted production results in a light, fruity spirit, with 90% of its whisky aged in ex-bourbon casks and the remainder in sherry oak.
