The Bimber 2019 Moscatel Finish Single Malt Whisky is a remarkable London whisky from the Bimber Distillery, celebrated for its handcrafted expertise and commitment to environmental causes. This particular bottling proudly supports the Sea Shepherd marine conservation organization. Aged for 4 years and finished in Moscatel Cask No. 439, this whisky epitomizes craftsmanship, drawing from the distillery's traditional methods such as farm-grown barley, traditional floor maltings, and in-house cooperage. The creative maturation process in the Moscatel cask develops a unique flavor profile, making this limited edition of only 242 bottles an exclusive offering. Despite being located in bustling London, the Bimber Distillery maintains a meticulous attention to detail, employing a 7-day fermentation process and utilizing two direct-fired pot stills. This dedication results in a highly coveted English whisky. This whisky also honors the spirit of the Dardanelles, the strait between the European peninsula of Gelibolu and northwest Asia Minor, where New Zealand brothers Alex and Nick Ravenhall swam across the waters while carrying Bimber single malt whisky. After each swim, the whisky was refilled into the Moscatel Cask No. 439 and further matured, creating the single cask bottling known as Intercontinental. In collaboration with their non-profit organization, Whisky and Waves, the Ravenhall brothers continue to support marine conservation efforts through open water swimming fundraisers for Sea Shepherd. This unique whisky represents a harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern creativity, all while supporting a worthy cause.

In my opinion, this is the least impressive bottling from Bimber to date. While I had high hopes, I was bitterly disappointed. The whisky is too wild and impetuous, with the alcohol hardly integrated, leaving sulfur notes and a musty feeling dominating the experience. The nose starts promising but becomes musty and sulfurous. The taste is overwhelmed by sulfur and mustiness, with barely integrated alcohol, making the finish far too short and sharp. Overall, it falls short of Bimber's usual high standards.
