This exceptionally rare 25-year-old Highland single malt from the Ben Nevis distillery was distilled in 1990 and bottled in October 2015. It is presented exclusively as Mr. Taketsuru's Single Cask. This whisky was meticulously filled into a rejuvenated ex-bourbon hogshead cask by the legendary Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. Ltd., on September 28, 1990. This special cask was chosen to celebrate the ownership of the Ben Nevis distillery, which Nikka acquired in 1989. Taketsuru, often revered as the father of Japanese whisky, sadly passed away in 2004 at the age of 90, never seeing this magnificent whisky bottled. Founded in 1825 by 'Long John' McDonald, the Ben Nevis distillery is located at Lochy Bridge in Fort William, beneath the UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. The distillery has a rich history of innovation and ownership changes, with significant milestones such as the introduction of continuous distillation and Coffey Stills by Joseph Hobbs in 1955. The unification of the Ben Nevis and Nevis distilleries in the 20th century has also contributed to its storied past. This single-cask expression has yielded only 235 individually numbered bottles at a robust natural strength of 61.3% ABV. The cask, a remade hogshead from freshly dumped ex-bourbon barrels, was rejuvenated by skilful coopers at Kinnaird's Cooperage in Leith, Scotland, ensuring the whisky's remarkable depth and character. The Ben Nevis 1990 Mr. Taketsuru's Single Cask is a marvel, blending the rich heritage of Scottish craftsmanship with the visionary spirit of Japanese whisky-making.
