This exceptional single malt hails from one of Speyside's most iconic distilleries, The Balvenie, which was founded in 1892 by William Grant & Sons, the same visionary minds behind Glenfiddich. The distillery, now boasting eight stills and a production capacity of around 7 million liters per annum, continues to be a significant player in the world of single malt whiskies. The Roasted Malt expression is a result of a small batch of dark roasted malted barley, distilled and aged for 14 years. This meticulous process has produced a well-matured whisky that embodies the classic Balvenie profile with an added complexity. The whisky offers soft, honeyed, and oaky notes, complemented by a gentle toastiness and a subtle hint of roasted malt. This particular bottling is among a limited run of only 34 casks, all drawn from Warehouse No.2. William Grant, the founder of Balvenie, previously honed his craft at Mortlach before laying the distillery's foundations in 1886. He dedicated his life to the company until his passing at the age of 83. Today, David Stewart, who achieved an MBE in 2016, serves as the current malt master. Stewart is renowned for pioneering the technique of wood finishing, where whisky aged in ex-bourbon casks is further matured in barrels that previously held port, sherry, rum, and other spirits, creating unique and nuanced flavor profiles.
