The Spirit of Art REV is a remarkable 26-year-old rum, hailing from Guyana's Enmore Distillery and bottled by independent bottler Valinch & Mallet. Distilled in 1994 from molasses using a Column Still, this limited-edition gem offers a cask strength of 52.5% ABV and bears the mark REV, with only 215 bottles available. Enthusiasts praise it for its complex and compelling aroma, boasting notes of leather, prunes, wood, spiciness, and licorice, while its palate richness fevers with flavors of leather, plum, chocolate, roasted elements, and tobacco. Highly regarded by the rum community, rum lovers urge you to try this outstanding rum if you ever get the chance, as it stands as one of the best continental Demerara rums available.
The nose is complex and greedy. Sweet, dried, ripe fruits are at the head of the pack. We find oranges, prunes, raisins, dates ... But other fresher fruits are also part of the game: currants and apricots. The whole completed by a nice dose of licorice-vanilla-chocolate that make this olfactory bouquet more than interesting. In the mouth, there is some pep but the alcohol is perfectly integrated. It's less fruity than the nose, but it's very greedy thanks to the caramel and coconut notes.
This bottle comes in a black and gold design, making it visually appealing to rum enthusiasts. The distillery, Valinch & Mallet, has recently released a trio of new rums, including this Enmore 1994 edition.
The aroma of this rum offers a mix of milk and dark chocolate, licorice, mocha, metallic notes, wood, tobacco, butter, citrus fruits, and herbal undertones. On the palate, it presents a thick texture with a balance of sweetness and aromatics, featuring burnt brown sugar, ginger, tannins, tobacco, and a variety of fruit flavors. The finish is warm and lingering, with notes of vanilla, burnt wood, caramel, and citrus.
Overall, this Enmore 1994 rum is described as pleasant and easy to sip, scoring an 89 from one reviewer. While the alcohol integration in the nose could have been better, the rum still offers an enjoyable experience for those looking for a complex and flavorful aged spirit.
