Distilled in 2001 at the renowned Clarendon distillery, this rum underwent a meticulous 2-week fermentation process using indigenous yeasts. The double distillation in a traditional pot still was followed by an 18-year aging period in bourbon casks, under the tropical Jamaican climate, resulting in a significant angels' share loss of 72%. To achieve its final profile, the rum was lightly reduced with spring water over a period of five and a half months.
This Old Brothers MLC variant is a particularly rare and exceptional Jamaican rum, classified as a Monymusk Light Continental. It stands out as the only high ester rum from the distillery, boasting over 500 g/hlap in esters at the time of distillation and 1409 g/hlap of volatile substances, of which 504 are esters. This unchill-filtered and naturally colored rum offers a unique and complex flavor profile that includes notes of jackfruit bomb, Arlequin bonbons, acidulated bonbons, and a long, rich finish. The astringent skin of the kaki fruit further adds to its complexity. Limited to only 396 bottles, this rum is a true collector's item and a testament to the artistry of Old Brothers and the Clarendon distillery.
