The Neisson 2003 Single Barrel #1 Butterfly, a limited-edition rum from Martinique's renowned Neisson Distillery, is a true gem. Born in 2003 and bottled at a natural strength of 46.1% ABV, this exquisite rum is a tribute to Sacha Neisson, the son of Gregory Neisson. Only 95 bottles were produced, each one presented in a beautifully crafted wooden box personalized by the artist Philippe Baudelocque. The Butterfly Edition is part of a broader series that also features unique artworks representing different regions: the Zandoli for the Caribbean & Africa, the Turtle for Asia, the Hummingbird for America, and the Seahorse for Oceania. The rum, distilled by Neisson, was aged in 11 barrels that had previously held Bourbon. In 2014, a portion was transferred to a 650-liter cask that had once contained Cognac, enhancing its complexity and depth. After more than fourteen years of careful aging, it was bottled in 2018, with only 370 liters remaining in the cask. The result is a balanced and harmonious spirit, expertly crafted by Alex Bobi and Gregory Vernant. This bottle, with its elegant aromatic and textural osmosis, stands as one of Neisson's finest achievements.
