Introducing La Favorite 2020 Les Freres de la Cote Cuvee no.1, a limited release rum crafted at the esteemed La Favorite distillery in Martinique and bottled by the independent bottler Les Freres de la Cote. This unique rum was distilled in 2020 from fresh sugar cane juice using a Creole Column and underwent an extraordinary aging process. Initially, it spent 8 months in a French oak cask before being transferred to ex-cognac barrels from Tonnellerie Navarre for an additional 4 months. To further enhance its complexity, the rum embarked on a 4-month transatlantic journey aboard the Brigantine Tres Hombres, where the dynamic aging process at sea imparted a distinctive maritime character.
This small-batch release boasts an impressive ABV of 67.6% and is limited to just 2300 bottles, making it a highly sought-after collector's item. On the nose, you'll encounter a rich bouquet of sugarcane, honeycomb, floral, and vegetal notes, with a subtle hint of young wood. The palate is dominated by a peppery and woody sensation, balanced by the sweetness of sugarcane and honey, and a dash of spiciness. The months spent in oak casks and at sea have tempered the rum's initial intensity, resulting in a vibrant yet well-balanced spirit with a unique maritime essence.
Presented as an amber-colored rum, also known as "eleve sous bois," this spirit reveals a complex flavor profile that evolves with aeration. It opens with fresh cane notes, transitioning to more terrestrial and dry flavors, and finally returning to a mature, subtly citrusy finish. The result is a powerful yet refined rum that transports you from the distillery's walls to the heart of the sugar cane fields and ultimately to the open sea.
This rum has a high alcohol content of 67.6% ABV.
Only 2300 bottles of this limited edition rum were produced.
