J.Bally 2002 43% 700ml information

The J. Bally Millésime 2002 is a distinctive Agricole rum, originating from Martinique and produced by the renowned J. Bally distillery. This exceptional rum is crafted from sugar cane juice using a column still, with an ABV of 43%. The 2002 vintage offers a unique blend of flavors, including woody, vanilla, earthy, agricole, and citrus notes. The aroma is characterized by hints of wood, vanilla, citrus, vegetal, and sugarcane.

This limited edition rum, distilled from pure cane juice, is born from the volcanic soil of Saint-Pierre, specifically the Cabret estate. The 2002 vintage has benefited from an exceptional harvest and undergone more than six years of maturation in oak barrels. This aging process has resulted in a round attack with spicy and woody notes, evolving from a dry tone to a more fruity and vanilla character on the palate.

The J. Bally Millésime 2002 has a beautiful amber, almost coppery color, with a discreetly expressed nose of woody notes that develop into vanilla. This Agricole rum is known for its spicy profile with notes of vanilla and dark chocolate, making it an exceptional addition to any rum collection.

On the palate, J. Bally 2002 is a complex yet balanced rum where the nose and mouth are in fine consistency. Woody and floral notes dominate, although a spicy side comes through well-integrated on the palate, contributing to its beautiful roundness. The rum’s unique profile includes powerful herbaceous, floral, and lightly woody notes, transporting you to plantation fields or a forest walk when you close your eyes.

A more flavorful and aromatic Bally than its 2005 counterpart, the rum’s nose is pleasant with fruity, vegetal, floral, and earthy notes interspersed with tobacco, wood, leather, and spices. Smooth and easy to drink, it offers a moderately long finish on similar tones. This rum is perfect for both novices and connoisseurs, with some reviewers suggesting it could benefit from a higher ABV.

In summary, the J. Bally Millésime 2002 is a limited edition Agricole rum from a distinctive terroir and produced by a renowned distillery. It offers a unique blend of flavors and aromas, making it a must-try for any rum enthusiast. With an excellent quality/price ratio, this vintage will leave no one indifferent, showcasing the exceptional potential of Agricole rums.

Reviewer's opinion

"A more flavorful and aromatic Bally than its 2005 counterpart. The nose is pleasant, carried by fruity, vegetal, floral, and earthy notes with tobacco, wood, leather, and spices. The rum is smooth, easy to drink but aromatic in the mouth. The finish is moderately long on the same tones. A nice Bally that could be even better with more voltage."

"A rather mild Agricole but still an Agricole nonetheless. Nice touch of oak and fruit with vanilla and caramel. There is a nice warmth on the palate but would have liked a higher ABV."

"Light and sugared nose and you can instantly tell it’s an agricole. On the mouth, there is again sugar and white chocolate. There is too much vegetal to be really great for my palate but the sugar works well and the finish is really on the soft side which is enjoyable. Solid Agricole but a little bit limited."

"A different profile entirely, lots of citrus both on the nose and in the taste, leading into white chocolate with citrus zest and salted caramel on the finish. Tasty! But not as complex as the 2003."

"A good rum, always a little salty as usual at Bally's."

"Almost finished the bottle: the very woody and bitter side is no longer as forward (perhaps a minor cold affected my previous tastings). In the end, it is quite pleasant with a certain depth and an ABV that allows easy appreciation. I often recommend it to novices who visit me. After half a bottle, hence a lot of oxidation: on the palate, the woodiness and medicinal side make it quite average. It is even a bit too bitter for my taste."

"On the palate, this is a complex but balanced rum. Moreover, there is a nice coherence between the nose and the mouth. We find the woody and floral notes. However, its spicy side appears in the mouth and is perfectly integrated. This rum has a nice roundness."
