The Havana Club Pacto Navio is a high-quality rum that stands out from other offerings from the Havana Club distillery, which are typically suited for club evenings and cocktail or long drink mixing. The name "Pacto Navio" refers to a pact that marked the peace between France and Spain in 1815, allowing for the return of trading ships between Havana, Cuba, and Europe. This rum is a tribute to that ship pact and tells an interesting story.
The Havana Club Pacto Navio is a molasses-based rum from Cuban production, aged in traditional oak barrels after distillation, and then undergoes a refining finishing process in former Sauternes wine barrels. These barrels were previously filled with French dessert wine for 18 months.
This dark rum is the pride of the Maestros Roneros of the renowned Havana Club distillery and should be enjoyed slowly, pure. The golden accents of the product presentation underline its luxurious flair and exclusivity.
The aroma of the beverage expresses itself in the form of floral notes, followed by ripe yellow fruit and melon. The alcohol is present with a banana note, similar to a young wine, with solvent accents. The white grapes are reminiscent of wine, with a hint of caramel that brings it back to rum and gives it a consistent finish.
The molasses used for the rum are carefully selected, containing 55% sugars. The fermentation process is short, lasting only 24 hours with Cuban yeasts. The water used is from the phreatic layer, and the distillation is continuous in a column with a small filtration.
The attack in the mouth is very soft and even silky. The intensity of the alcohol perceived in the nose has completely evaporated. The rum floats in a caramel and coffee syrup, with lightly toasted nut fruits. The sensation is decidedly soft, almost creamy, but it is a light and fluid cream.
Pacto Navio is a Cuban "Ron" created by Asbel Morales, the Maestro Ronero of Havana Club. It results from a blend of a dozen old traditional rums (therefore of molasses as are almost all Cuban rums), and a partial finishing in Sauternes casks at the Cuban San Jose distillery.
After blending, the rums are returned to aging. 20% of the total rum benefits from a 3-month finishing in barrels that have contained Sauternes. The Sauternes barrels are used only once for finishing and then serve for the normal aging of rums.
The Havana Club Pacto Navio is a blend of up to ten base rum types, produced from Cuban sugar cane molasses. This rich, raw, brown syrup is naturally fermented and then aged in our distillery to develop its strength. The result is a creamy rum with notes of citrus and cinnamon.
