The Botran family company first focused on the cultivation of quality sugar cane and only later began to produce its own rums.

Official webiste: botranrum.com

These rums come from Guatemala, whose volcanic soil imparts its mineral wealth to the sugar cane. They grow different varieties of sugar cane on several of their own plantations and harvest them at different times. This gives them a varied basis for their own rums, which they have been producing since 1939. This family-owned company produced the first Guatemalan rum - and thanks to their tireless work, Guatemalan rum production has also been listed as a significant Protected Designation of Origin product to prevent imitation. During production, the rums are aged in white oak barrels and blended at different stages of ageing, after which the whole process is repeated, often using the 'dynamic Solera' method. This creates unique Guatemalan rums that are stored in barrels at high altitudes. Botran has been a successful family business for several generations, following the tradition of honouring Guatemala's climate, quality sugar cane, or virgin honey.

Botran Rare Blend was created as a limited edition to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the brand. This blend of rums, aged between 8 and 25 years, is not made from molasses, but from virgin cane syrup and matured in five different casks – ex-whisky, ex-sherry, and even ex-port. This method makes the aroma and flavour of this rum a full-bodied mix of sweet notes that combine the subtle flavours of honey and cane. Aromas of aged wood and nuts slightly break up the fruity flavour. The mahogany colour hides a balanced, full-bodied rum that blends the sweetness of exotic fruits on honey with spicy notes of smoke, wood, and spice.

This rum is made from a blend of vintage rums aged up to 18 years. Compared to the Botran Rare Blend, its complex notes are tempered by a stronger aroma of wood and roasted cocoa. Candied fruits are complemented beautifully by nutmeg and pepper, but classic notes of vanilla and caramel with nuts also resonate on the tongue. Echoes of citrus and orange peel give the rum the necessary lightness in the finish without disturbing the perfectly balanced harmony of all the ingredients.

Another edition of Botran rums celebrates the 75th anniversary of the company's founding. Using the same Solera method as the previous two bottlings, this rum is a unique blend of aged rums ranging in age from 5 and 30 years. The luxurious bottle hides an amber rum with fresh fruit flavours. Apricot is the dominant fruit, which blends wonderfully with the honeyed sugar cane base. Grapes and raisins marinated in maple syrup blend with the woody notes of the various barrels in which the blend was aged. The combination of citrus and spice gently teases the tongue, only to be gently caressed by the subtle flavours of vanilla and nuts. This experience will linger on your tongue for a while and you will be surprised by the complexity and balance of this limited edition piece.
