Kraken Rum hails from the Caribbean. In the United States, Proximo Spirits distributes Kraken. The name 'Kraken' is inspired by a mythological sea creature resembling a huge squid. Kraken Rum was launched in 2010. The original rum is produced from locally cultivated sugar cane molasses in Trinidad. The rum is stored for one to two years before being combined with eleven spices, comprising cinnamon, ginger, and clove. When brought up to the light, the black liquid reveals shades of brown.

The bottle is designed to resemble a Victorian rum bottle, equipped with two hoop handles inspired by the custom of hanging bottles to avoid breaking. The bottle's label is a black-and-white paper depiction of a massive squid with Architeuthis dux's scientific term. The rear label of the bottle says, "imported rum from the Caribbean blended with natural flavors."
In 2015, Proximo started distributing Kraken Ghost White Rum in Mexico.
Beginning in early 2020, Kraken introduced two additional pre-mixed flavors, Kraken & Dry and Kraken & Cola, strengthening its Australian marketplace position.
In 2013, two 3D outdoor billboards for Kraken Rum depicted a customer being pulled out of a house window by a gigantic tentacle of a Kraken the sea monster. The ad was produced by the New York advertising agency 'Dead As We Know It', which also developed numerous animated Tv commercials for the label, merging 2D and 3D motion graphics in a 19th-century scientific theme, along with an iPhone and Android app, The Kraken: The Simulation Application for Nautical Maneuvering, a game in which gamers navigate a ship through waters infested with Kraken. Later the same year, Blur Studio produced animated commercials depicting Kraken wrecking a vessel to the melody of Bobby Darin's 1959 edition of 'Beyond the Sea'.
Kraken Rum sponsored the Kitschies, a British prize for imaginative fiction.
In October of 2020, Kraken worked with professional freediver Beci Ryan after announcing the debut of its underwater 'Dive Thru.' The Kraken Rum has an imported mixture of Caribbean rums combined with various spices, such as cinnamon, clove, and ginger; it is powerful, rich, dark, and mellow.
This rum is produced in pot stills in the Virgin Islands and aged with naturally delicious molasses derived from sugarcane cultivated in rivers nearby. Molasses diluted with water are fermented with natural yeasts and turned instantly into alcohol. The rum is matured for 12 to 24 months in oak boxes before being combined with various spices, notably cinnamon, ginger, and clove. It is best consumed over ice or as an ingredient in different unique drinks.
In 2021, The Kraken Black Spiced Rum's special edition bottle was released as a part of their 'Unknown Deep' series. At 4000 meters depth, the water is as dark as night. But, as you enter the nighttime zone, enticed by the light, you are welcomed with the eerie bioluminescent glow of the Krakens' treasure, the origin of which is unknown.
The Kraken Black Spiced Rum Unknown Deep, shipped from the Caribbean and meticulously mixed with various spices, is powerful, rich, black, and subtle. Reflecting a second effort to locate 'The Beast,' the bottle arrives in its own ruined diving prison, with a deep blue iridescent coating and a sensual engraved finish on the bottle itself.
Each time a limited-edition bottle is sold, The Kraken would give £1 to 'Padi Aware', a marine preservation organization whose purpose is to remove ocean trash and inform on the kinds, amounts, and places of the items collected to guide subsequent conservation initiatives and research.
Ian Amos, an operations coordinator at 'Padi Aware', stated, "Kraken Rum has a long history of helping marine life, from the tiniest sea creatures to the largest sea dwellers, so we're happy to be working together again to rescue and safeguard the ocean."
