Rhum Barbancourt is a Haitian rum made from 100% sugar cane extract and manufactured by Société du Rhum Barbancourt. The factory is one of Haiti's ancient institutions, and the rum produced is the nation's most renowned product, having been generally considered one of the globe's greatest rums for more than 150 years.

On March 18, 1862, the family company started by making rum straight from sugar cane syrup. Dupré Barbancourt created the refinery in 1862 in the cognac-producing area of Charente. In December of the same year, he learned how to produce rum and started distributing it.

When Dupré Barbancourt passed away, the distillery was handed down to his widow Nathalie Gardère, who ran it with the assistance of her nephew Paul Gardère. After she died, Paul took over as director until his demise in 1946, and his son Jean Gardère took over, carrying on the family heritage until 1990. When Jean died, Thierry Gardère stepped up as CEO and continued operation as the fourth generation. Delphine Nathalie Gardère took over as CEO of Barbancourt when her father, Thierry Gardère, died on March 1, 2017.

When the 2010 Haitian earthquake hit, two employees were killed, around 86 homes were demolished, many aging process barrels were wrecked, suspending rum production, and rum availability and pricing were impacted. However, manufacturing restarted by May 2010.

Delphine Nathalie Gardère revealed in November 2020 that she currently held 100 percent of the equity of Société du Rhum Barbancourt after a Leveraged Buy-Out from all the existing Gardère family members.

In 1949, the firm migrated to the Domaine Barbancourt's sugar cane lands within the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac area. By 1952, the prosperous firm had increased output, changing itself from a cottage business to a large manufacturer of supreme quality rum. The rum is distilled twice in a method identical to that adopted to make cognac.

Barbancourt is made from sugar cane fluid instead of molasses, a byproduct of sugar cane. This is identical to Martinique's Rhum Agricole, which is rigorously regulated by legislation. Pure sugar cane juice is fermented to produce a more delicious product.

Barbancourt's items are highly recognized and have won several international contests, receiving rave accolades from rum enthusiasts. The classic Réserve du Domaine is 15 years old, and every bottle used to contain a specific serial number; nonetheless, the labels have been altered, and this is not the case anymore. Other notable items include the 5 Star Reserve Speciale, which has matured for eight years, the 3 Star Rum, which is aged for four years, and a fine white rum prepared from natural sugar cane juice.

Barbancourt rums are sold in 20 countries, including the Caribbean, the United States, France, and Italy. Barbancourt is one of Haiti's most well-known businesses on a global scale.

Rum Barbancourt is regarded across the globe as "the rum of aficionados," as it follows a centuries-old heritage derived from the French ways of producing cognac and is unrivaled in richness and flavor.

Barbancourt Rum Reserve du Domaine 15-year-old is selected from the Gardere family's personal stock; a limited amount is produced every year and accessible to connoisseurs.

This rum comes in a brightly colored cardboard box (inspired by the work of legendary Haitian artist Felix Jean) that includes a traditional, low-neck semi-opaque bottle. The gold tag is traditional, and it provides a good amount of detail about what you're going to drink.

It has a lovely gold color and thick thighs for a Rhum Agricole in a glass. Spiciness, as well as undertones of citrus, emerge immediately, leaving a flowery sensation. Given the age, which helps to smooth out the characteristic agricole aggressiveness, you get the impression that you are not sniffing a molasses-based liquor.

This rum reveals oak flavors that are stronger than the flowery aromas on the scent. There are some spicy notes and a lengthy, lemony touch that you might like, but it is not as nuanced as you would anticipate from a 15-year-old.

Barbancourt Haiti Rum Estate Reserve 15-year-old rum is produced in Haiti from natural sugar cane juice, taking full use of its geography and classic Haitian agricultural methods.

Barbancourt Haiti Rum Estate Reserve 15-years-old is matured to excellence (8 years in Limousin oak barrels, 7 years in American ex-bourbon) to obtain the finest oaky smells, thus delivering a unique flavor profile after distilling all the flavors of the native cane.

This rum has a gentle aroma of roasted brown sugar and a texture that lets its tastes unfold softly and beautifully over the tongue. This spirit is great for drinking with a lengthy finish that starts smooth and concludes with lemon and spice nuances. It comes in a gift box with Haitian art, remaining true to its Haitian heritage and Creole tradition.

Originally distilled and saved solely for the Barbancourt family and acquaintances, it was subsequently offered for sale to the public for the very first time ever in the middle of the 1960s, receiving widespread acclaim.

The rum flavor is similar both in the taste and on the nose. The taste of this rum is remarkable, with caramel and toffee notes enhanced by sandalwood and French Limousin oak. Due to the usage of giant wooden vats to mature a part of the rum, the more oaky flavors that ought to be anticipated in the taste are less pronounced than a 15-year-old liquor. More enormous vats allow for less contact with the wood.
