In 1824, Dr. Seigert introduced the formula for aromatic bitters called “Amargo Aromatico” that he originally wanted to use for his surgical practice, but ended up forming the essence of distinctive flavour of Angostura rums. This eventually resulted in the production of one of the most awarded rums in the world, following a tradition that dates back more than 200 years. Angostura rums are made from the finest molasses, fermented using proprietary fermentation cultures and distilled in columns. Rums are matured in oak barrels and their exquisite flavour is the result of blending of carefully selected local rums.
Angostura 1919 is one of the brand's most successful multiple award-winning rum. The year 1919 refers to the year when it was first put into the cask – those casks even survived the great fire in 1930. This rum captures the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago, and like no other rum it preserves the passion of a family that has devoted their life to rum production, turning it from business to art. It is a rum designed for slow sipping with complex aromas of exotic spices, vanilla and hint of honey with dried fruits; blending rums that have been aged in re-bourbon barrels between 5 and 14 years.
Angostura 1787 is a premium rum that aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels for a minimum of fifteen years. It is said that through the sipping, one can experience the establishment of the first sugar mill and plantation in Trinidad dated back to 1787. The mahogany colour with bronze highlights reveals a wonderfully balanced rum with sweet aromas of banana, dried fruit, oak and hints of apple. The palate shows notes of prunes and delicate touches of oak intertwined with hints of toffee. Angostura 1787 won (among others) Gold Medal at San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2018.
